Abstract: The article considers the results of the current policy of import substitution of food, analyzes the dynamics of production and import of import-substituting agricultural products and food, as well as the change in prices for them and per capita consumption in accordance with the recommended norms. The feasibility, possibilities and limitations for import substitution and expansion of Russian food exports are examined taking into account the influence of the price factor. It is concluded that full import substitution is not advisable, and to build up export potential, activation of investment and innovation activity and comprehensive state support are necessary.
