Abstract: The paper considers the influence of the main factors determining the ongoing decline in cattle stock in the country and offers scenarios for solving this problem. One of the main factors determining the continuing decline in cattle stock and milk production, despite the sharp increase in productivity in recent years, is the low profitability of the business in this industry. This leads to a lack of new investment. One of the reasons for this state of affairs is the bias of the existing methods of cost accounting and analysis of livestock production, distorting the real cost of the industry, according to which feed of own production is included in it not at the market price, as in the whole world, but at cost. We propose a change in this methodology, which will ensure equal profitability of farms working both on their own and on purchased feeds and will accelerate the development and formation of a wound of coarse and succulent feed that has appeared and has been developing in recent years.
