Abstract: The purpose of the study is to identify the main trends in changes in the number of employees in agricultural organizations in the Altai Territory, and to assess the impact of quantitative and qualitative factors on changes in the demand for personnel in the livestock industry of the region. The article identifies the main stages of changes in the number of cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats in agricultural organizations in the Altai Territory. It is shown that currently there are contradictory trends in animal husbandry compared to 1990, when production was competitive, pig farming, sheep farming, and cattle breeding were represented in most of the municipal districts: the production of industrial pig farming is concentrated in four large intensive complexes; sheep farming remained in several organizations; dairy cattle breeding is represented everywhere, but mainly In small and medium-sized organizations in the Altai Territory, large federal agricultural holdings are implementing two investment projects to create dairy complexes, but the projected milk production volumes do not compensate for the shortfall in production volumes in small and medium-sized organizations, which occurs due to a decrease in the number of cows. The dynamics for 2010-2024 show the distribution of agricultural organizations in the region by the number of employees, revealing an increase in organizations with up to 20 employees from 28.84% to 53.86% (this group of organizations specializes in the production of crop products), while the share of organizations with more than 100 employees decreased from 33.38% to 15.58% (in this group of organizations, livestock production generates half of the revenue). A factor analysis was conducted to confirm the hypothesis that the decrease in the number of livestock in agricultural organizations and changes in the organization of labor in animal husbandry determine the need for personnel. It was found that the main factor in determining the need for personnel from 1990 to 2024 was the quantitative factor of the number of livestock animals. The impact of the quality factor (labor costs per head of livestock) has increased only in recent years, with a significant change in the organization of labor and production processes in animal husbandry.
