Abstract: The paper examines the issues of forming and developing high-tech agricultural production zones in the context of factors determining their operational efficiency. Territorial organisation, specialisation and increased productivity of agricultural land are extremely important in the context of slowing growth in the economically active population, population outflow from rural areas, and the challenges facing the Russian Federation in ensuring food security, balanced territorial development and creating incentives for regional economic growth. High-tech vegetable production zones are assigned the role of focal points for the introduction of innovations in the agro-industrial complex and for increasing the attractiveness of rural areas for investors and labour market participants. The subject matter of this study is determined by the spontaneous nature of the spatial organisation of agriculture in the Russian Federation, as noted by researchers, and the need to improve the theoretical and methodological support for the formation of high-tech vegetable production zones. By applying methods of analysis and synthesis to literature and sources, the paper proposes a system of factors that directly and indirectly influence the effectiveness of the formation of specialised high-tech zones for the production of certain types of agricultural products, and formulates conclusions regarding the methodology for their analysis at various stages of the organisation of high-tech zones
