Abstract: The changes taking place in the external environment put forward new requirements for agricultural production. As a result, the criteria for the level of training of personnel of agricultural organizations are being transformed. The formation of competencies of agricultural workers is becoming a source of competitive advantages. The author focuses on the state of human resources in agriculture and its human potential. The purpose of the work is to analyze the specifics and directions of strengthening the staffing of agricultural organizations for the sustainable development of rural areas in the region. The research is based on analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, which made it possible to reflect the results obtained. The information base of the study is scientific publications on staffing rural areas, statistical data on the population, and more. The article indicates that the main problems of the shortage of agricultural specialists are low wages in the industry, poor infrastructural support for rural areas and the reluctance of graduates of agricultural universities to work in this field. An important condition for strengthening the staffing of agriculture is to increase the prestige of agricultural labor.
