Abstract: The structural changes in the Indian dairy industry over the past three decades are reviewed, and those changes determine the further direction of the Indian dairy industry development. The stages of evolution of Indian agricultural policy at various stages of historical development are overviewed. Current economic environment is changing rapidly under the influence of growing food security risks associated with changes in the global food situation. With significant production resources and opportunities for developing export potential, India is capable of becoming a leading player in the global trade in dairy products and making a significant contribution to the collective food security of the BRICS countries.
