Abstract: A feature of Russia has been and remains vast territories of agricultural lands, low bioclimatic potential and high labor intensity of production. This requires a scientifically grounded approach to the socio-economic transformations of the agricultural sector and taking into account the historical experience of its reform. The relevance of the topic is caused by the need to analyze the general and special features of agrarian reforms of the XX century. The purpose of the study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the Stolypin reform, the reforms of 1965 and 1990 in Russia. Historical, analytical and comparative methods were used. It is shown that for the successful implementation of land reforms, the following are necessary: a strategy for the implementation of the state agrarian policy (goals, objectives, means and mechanisms), increasing the competitiveness of the domestic agro-industrial complex; development of institutional conditions (economic, legal, organizational), as well as cooperation and logistics infrastructure; accounting, monitoring of labor and material - technical support.
