Abstract: The article considers the essence and differences of the key economic categories - intensification and efficiency of production. Their features and significance in the horticulture industry are given. It is noted that a number of definitions and indicators in this area have been developed in theory and practice, but at the present stage there is no unified methodological system for evaluating these categories among economic scientists. Approaches to determining the essence of the efficiency criterion are considered. A refined system of indicators for evaluating the effectiveness ofgardening is proposed. The results of the study can be used in the formation of state programs for the sustainable development of the industry and saturation of the domestic market with its own fruit and berry products.
