Abstract: The article notes that in Russia the main stake in ensuring the country's food security is made on large agricultural holdings, some of which own farmland of about 1 million hectares or more. Thus, the mistakes of the past are being repeated in a multiplied form, which hindered the harmonious development of all forms of management in the agricultural sector. Such a policy impedes the growth of the purchasing power of the population, increases the risks for the country, and endangers the solution of the food problem. The expediency of strengthening the social orientation of the agrarian policy, as well as attention to the self-sufficiency of the regions with food has been substantiated, the measures necessary for this have been proposed.
