Abstract: The article discusses current trends in the agricultural policy of Canada to promote innovative development of the agricultural sector of the economy. It is shown that despite the high technological level achieved in the agricultural sector the government of Canada in recent decades has been actively adapting program methods for managing innovation processes using the partnership mechanism to create conditions for interaction between the state and stakeholders to ensure sustainable growth and the formation of a competitive agricultural economy of an innovative type. The content of the main research and innovation programs of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Canada, provincial and territorial ministries of agriculture and the conditions for their implementation using the partnership mechanism of government agencies, science, industry associations and private business are briefly considered.
