Abstract: Market transformations that have taken place in the agricultural sector of the Russian economy have led to a decrease in the production of all types of agricultural products. The reduction in milk production led to a sharp increase in its import supplies, which led to a decrease in the number of dairy cows. Over the past 30 years, the number of cattle has decreased by almost 39 million, or 69‰. The number of dairy animals in 2018 amounted to 7.9 million, which is 2 times less than the 1988 level. Milk production also decreased by 2 times. As a result, feed procurement volumes declined sharply.
