Abstract: The article provides an analysis of the development of foreign trade over the past five years. The structure of exports of food and agricultural raw materials is presented, it is noted that despite the average annual growth rate of exports of about 10‰, a negative trade balance remains. The raw material orientation of exports was also noted - 80‰ of exports are raw materials and low-processed products. The issues of developing the export potential in the agri-food sector through the use of opportunities to improve regulatory mechanisms in the production and marketing of products: the use of the principle of equal access to state support for all business entities; improvement of regulation in the field of production and circulation of grain; strengthening control over the production of livestock products at export-oriented enterprises, including through the adoption of national programs to supervise the emergence and spread of infectious diseases; stimulating the development of export activities in all regions of Russia, improving regulation in the production and marketing of organic and environmentally friendly products.
