Abstract: The article considers the existing approaches to the classification ofproductive lands of the Russian Federation, taking into account natural, economic and soil conditions. It is shown that the existing methods of land classification in General create a regulatory and methodological basis for their differentiation and provide reliable results. Anew approach of work on land classification in the form of a project cycle is proposed.
