Abstract: The relevance of this research topic stems from the growing role of international trade in agri-food products in ensuring food security in countries in recent decades. Globalization and market openness have significantly simplified food imports. However, in recent years, amid new global challenges and restrictions, many countries have faced shortages of essential foodstuffs. This article discusses key issues related to the impact of agricultural exports and imports on food security. It highlights the negative impact of rising global prices in key agricultural markets on food security, and examines the role of hidden costs of agri-food systems in addressing food security issues. The study highlights inflation as an important marker of food security, leading to its absence, reducing the availability of food, and worsening the socioeconomic situation in least developed countries. Hidden aspects, particularly environmental ones, in the development of agri-food systems also worsen food security, making the problem of some developing countries' chronic dependence on food imports a persistent issue. The risks of trade protectionism and further fragmentation of international trade, as shown in the study, could reverse all the progress made in recent decades in global food security.
