Abstract: The article examines the state of the social infrastructure of rural areas (education, healthcare, culture, physical education and sports) in the context of the transition to a new model of spatial development through a network of anchor settlements. The authors have collected and processed statistical information on the research topic for 2014-2024. Based on the analysis of the dynamics of social infrastructure provision and inter-settlement comparison, the prevailing trends and the level of disparity between urban and rural areas have been established. A brief overview of the state of the program-targeted mechanism for the development of rural social infrastructure within the framework of a new model of spatial development has been performed and proposals for its adjustment have been formulated. The study is complemented by a review of scientific research on the social development of rural areas, the implementation of rural development programs, criticism of spatial development, and is framed in the framework of a scientific discussion.
