Abstract: The article discusses the issues of analyzing and evaluating rural development in the context of the state policy on rural areas and the rural economy. The author suggests that the methodological basis for rural development research could be strengthened by using geoinformatics and spatial analysis methods more widely. This would require working with the smallest possible units of space and ensuring its continuity, considering various rural-urban forms and their interactions. From this perspective, the author proposes a potential application of this methodology to a "rural spatial continuum", which includes not only rural areas but also small and medium-sized towns adjacent to them. To model this continuum, they suggest using a database of geospatial data detailed by spatial elements. The methodology for researching and assessing the rural development of a macroregion is described conceptually by the author, based on methods of spatial econometrics, geospatial analysis and mapping. This involves the typologization and profiling of rural areas, using regionalization to divide the territory, as well as analyzing indicators of agricultural performance and socio-economic indicators.
