Abstract: In the article the production of grain is analyzed in dynamics in the country as a whole and on the maingrain crops. Significant relativity of the total production of grains and its yielding per hectare because of a low tech-nical and technological supplementation of the grain branch in comparison with the countries with developed econo-mies and also because of significant fluctuations on years of agrometeorological conditions of agricultural produc-tion and the negative influence of large-scale droughts in various regions is indicated. It is noted that there is a highproportion of imported tractors and grain combines entering the agricultural production, which are significantly su-perior to domestic machines in terms of the main technical characteristics. A number of organizational and economicmeasures are proposed to develop the production potential of Russian grain production on an innovative basis, in-cluding the creation of its own base of domestic agricultural machinery on the basis of the adoption of the relevantFederal target program.
