Abstract: The article emphasizes the role of the «foundation» in the form of digital development indices, potentially allowing to accelerate the process of innovative development of the agricultural sector. The barriers and constraining factors that shift the trajectory of innovative development from optimistic scenarios are considered. Attention is focused on the model of digital agriculture as a concept of using modern digital technologies in order to increase the efficiency and sustainability of rural development. The specialized indexes reflecting with varying degrees the essence and readiness for digital transformation and, as a consequence, for the possibility of commercialization of innovations in the agro-industrial complex are considered and analyzed. A system of digitalization indices has been compiled. A strategic map has been developed that makes it possible to identify a systematic approach to the topic under study with the allocation of the following «pools»: the scientific community, including a set of research institutes and universities; ecosystem operators that maintain optimal functional
