Abstract: The relevance of this study stems from the fact that agriculture is a vital sector of Russia's industry, ensuring food security, employment for over 6 million citizens, and supporting rural areas. At the same time, the agro-industrial complex faces unprecedented challenges: sanctions, labor shortages, expensive external financing, and climate change. Ensuring the financial stability of the agro-industrial complex directly depends on the effectiveness of a well-established insurance system, as losses from natural disasters that destroy agricultural crops can lead to the bankruptcy of indebted enterprises. Therefore, it is necessary to continue researching the modern approach to agricultural insurance in Russia and identify the weaknesses of the current model. This will serve as a basis for improving the theoretical and methodological principles of crop protection and developing a mechanism to minimize producers' financial losses from natural disasters. Therefore, to assist farmers, the Russian Ministry of Agriculture provides state support through insurance mechanisms. This system has proven its effectiveness in international practice, but domestic experience requires further development, as the national agricultural insurance model is unable to comprehensively provide protection against production risks in the agricultural sector.
